How-to guides

Step by step, screen by screen

Everything you need to go from a new account to your first campaign. Stuck? Email support@uvitechgh.com.

Getting started

Create an account

  1. 1Go to Sign up.
  2. 2Choose a username, enter your email and a password, then tap Create Account -- or use Continue with Google.
  3. 3Open the verification email we send you and click the link to confirm your address.

  1. 1Go to Log in.
  2. 2Enter your email and password and tap Sign In (or use Google if that’s how you signed up).
  3. 3Open Dashboard → SMS to reach the SMS dashboard.

Had an account on the old UelloSend site? Log in with the same email and password -- your balance, sender IDs and contacts have been moved over.

Buy credit

  1. 1On any SMS page, tap Top Up on the SMS Credit tile at the top.
  2. 2Choose SMS Bundle for a discounted pack (lasts 90 days), or Credit to pay any amount from GHS 5 (never expires).
  3. 3Pay with Mobile Money or card at checkout. Your balance updates as soon as payment is confirmed.

Bundle credits are always used first. See pricing and bundles.

Request a sender ID

  1. 1Open Sender IDs and tap Request Sender ID.
  2. 2Enter the name your messages should show (at most 11 characters, e.g. SHOPNOW), your business type and name, a contact person and what you’ll send (OTP, promotional, informational or verification).
  3. 3Submit. You can send with it once its status shows Approved; a rejected request can be fixed and resubmitted.

Names that could pass for a bank, telco, mobile money or government sender are not allowed.

Sending

Send a quick message

  1. 1Open Quicksend.
  2. 2Pick your sender ID and paste or type the numbers -- one per line, or separated by commas. Tap Preprocess Contacts to clean the list and remove duplicates.
  3. 3Type your message. The counter shows how many pages (credits per recipient) it uses.
  4. 4Tap Check Cost to see the price, then Send Now.

Up to 5,000 numbers per send. Standard messages allow up to 160 characters. Emojis and special characters are supported, but reduce segment size to 70 characters (which uses more credits). Tap Auto-Cleanse to GSM-7 if you want to remove emojis and save credits.

Send a campaign to a group

  1. 1Save your recipients in a contact group first (see Add contacts).
  2. 2Open Campaign, pick your sender ID and the contact group.
  3. 3Load a message template or type your message.
  4. 4Check the cost, then tap Send Now.

Send a campaign with each contact’s name

  1. 1Make sure the group’s contacts have names (upload them with names, or edit a contact’s name on the Contacts page).
  2. 2On Campaign, write the message with {NAME} where the name should go, e.g. Hello {NAME}, your order is ready.
  3. 3Send. Each contact gets the message with their own name. Contacts without a name are skipped.

Schedule a campaign

  1. 1Set up the campaign as usual on Campaign.
  2. 2Tick Schedule for later instead of sending now and choose the date and time.
  3. 3Tap Schedule Campaign. The credits are reserved now and the messages go out at that time.
  4. 4See or cancel upcoming sends under Scheduled.

Contacts and templates

Add contacts

  1. 1Open Contacts and tap New Group to create a group (e.g. “Customers”).
  2. 2Tap Add Contacts, choose the group, and paste numbers -- one per line.
  3. 3Save. Invalid and duplicate numbers are removed automatically.

A group holds up to 5,000 contacts. On an Android phone you can also tap From phone contacts to pick people from your address book.

Upload contacts without names

  1. 1In Add Contacts, choose Numbers only.
  2. 2Tap Upload file and pick an Excel (.xlsx/.xls), CSV or text file with one number per row. Download a sample from the same window if you need one.
  3. 3Check the preview and save.

Upload contacts with names

  1. 1In Add Contacts, choose Numbers & Names.
  2. 2Upload a file with a phone column and a name column (download the sample in the same window to see the layout) -- or paste lines like 0240000000:Ama.
  3. 3You can also upload a contacts file (.vcf) exported from your phone: on iPhone, share contacts from the Contacts app; on Android, export from Contacts.

Save a message template

  1. 1Open Templates and tap New Template.
  2. 2Give it a name and write the message, then save.
  3. 3On Campaign, pick it from Message Template to fill in the message. You can still edit it before sending.

Save a template with a name placeholder

  1. 1Create a template as above and put {NAME} where each contact’s name should appear.
  2. 2Use it on Campaign with a group whose contacts have names -- see campaigns with names.
